The Secret of the Muses

Formed in 2020, the ensemble is the result of a collaboration between soprano Florence Susant, mezzo-soprano Marie-Laure Coenjaerts, and theorbist, lutenist, and guitarist Jasper Bärtling-Lippina. The ensemble's musicians came together around a shared passion for the work of musician Barbara Strozzi. While they met in the halls of conservatories, their passion was fueled primarily by the composer and conductor Gabriel Garrido (a musician and conductor specializing in the Italian Baroque repertoire and the Baroque musical heritage of South America). Inspired by 17th-century Italian music, they decided to honor the composer with her extraordinary destiny. As part of its project, the ensemble wishes to combine its research on the composer with the teachings, musicality, and instrumentation of the Argentinian conductor.
